We went to Adalah, a Human Rights Organisation in Haifa: https://www.adalah.org/en/content/view/7189
They do incredible work fighting legal cases against house demolitions, evictions and many other issues. It can be soul destroying work but they do have tiny victories. They knew about the campaign in the UK to shut Elbit down and told us how much it inspired them. So of course we sang our song ‘Shut Elbit Down’.
Adalah was an important visit as they are fighting for the rights of Palestinians living ‘inside ’48’ where they are still subjected to demolitions, to evictions and a host of discriminatory practices despite Israel’s claims to be a democracy. Adalah talked about how Palestinians have always been treated as ‘enemies of the state’ and do not have recourse to any fair legal process either within Israel, and in Palestine all adults and children and subjected to military courts. Recently Israel has declared 6 highly respected civil society organisations as ‘terrorist’ and raided and closed their offices. Adalah have petitioned against this but no grounds for such a declaration have been shared, making legal recourse difficult.
