On Sunday we had a very moving trip to a destroyed village just outside Nazareth. It was called Saffuriya. It had been a thriving village before 1948.
In ’48 it was attacked and almost completely demolished; some of the villagers were killed and the rest fled. 532 villages and towns were destroyed in ’48.
The photos show what the village used to look like and all that is left now are the stones of the cemetery.
Our guide told us about his grandparents who lived there. His grandfather was a prominent citizen in the community and a freedom fighter. We sang ‘This is Home’ to our guide in the cemetery. It was incredibly moving.
